Rev. Sun Myung Moon
Seoul, South Korea
The founder of the Unification Church and the inspiration for a worldwide network of service organizations, newspapers, media sources, and many business projects died Monday, September 3, 2012, in his homeland of Korea. He was 92 years old.
Rev. Moon and his wife are considered by their millions of followers worldwide to be the True Parents of humankind. His religious mission came as a response to an Easter morning appearance of Jesus Christ on a mountain top in what is now North Korea in 1936. As explained in Rev. Moon's autobiography, Jesus said to him:
"God is in great sorrow because of the pain of humankind. You must take on a special mission on earth having to do with Heaven's work."
The Iowa members of the Unification Church will host a local gathering to participate in the world wide Seung Wha (Ascension Celebration) ceremony. Tens of thousands are expected at the service in Korea, including a delegation from Iowa. The local service will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 14, in the Unification Church of Iowa sanctuary located at 5840 University Ave., in Des Moines, Iowa. This will include a webcast of the service from Korea. All are welcome.
