Josephine Nucaro, 78, passed away December 2, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Tonini Funeral Home, with a Vigil at 7:30.
Josephine was born January 29, 1934 in Terravecchia, Italy to the late Cataldo and Maria Leo. Josephine married her husband, Mike, and immigrated to the United States in 1959, where they made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. Josephine was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She dedicated her life to being a homemaker and was an amazing cook, seamstress and gardener. She welcomed everyone warmly into her home and enjoyed pampering her family and friends with special meals and attention. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life and her greatest source of joy. All who had the privilege of knowing Josephine's love, kindness and generosity will miss her immensely. Josephine was proud of her Italian heritage and served in various cultural associations. Throughout her life she was actively involved in St. Anthony's Altar and Rosary Society, the Society of Italian Americans, and the Italian Cultural Center.
Josephine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike Nucaro; and her brother, Aldo Leo (Pisa, Italy).
She is survived by her siblings in Italy: Elvira (Carmen) Pigneri, Fortunato (Elena) Leo, Frank (Lella) Leo, and Maria (Vincenzo) Spina; her children: Mary (Tim) Ganske, Tom Nucaro, Rosanna (Andy) Damiani, and Tony (Annette) Nucaro; and her grandchildren: Alex Ganske, Anna (Tim) McLaughlin, Libby (Cody) Smith, Emily, Katie, Anthony and Nicole Nucaro, Natalie and Elena Damiani, Ben, Justice, William and Maria Nucaro.
