John Bremhorst, 73, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th St., Urbandale, Iowa, on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 6, 2012 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a 5 p.m. prayer service at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
John was born October 23, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Sylvia (Thill) Bremhorst and Henry Bremhorst. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Clinton, Iowa in 1957, and St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa in 1961 with a degree in chemistry. He married Jean Remke, of Davenport, Iowa in 1963 and worked for Argo Corn Products Company, in suburban Chicago; Clinton Corn Products, Clinton, Iowa; and for the State of Iowa in the Department of Environmental Quality, and the Department of Occupational Safety & Health, Des Moines, Iowa retiring in 2004.
He found much time for his family as a dedicated husband and father, taking them on trips to State Parks throughout Iowa and National Parks throughout the U.S. He loved gardening, camping and fishing with his family. He also supported his three children in Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) competitive swimming and other sports.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jean, of 49 years, son Steve and his wife Kristi, grandchildren Patrick, Sean, and Ryan all of Des Moines; son James of Clive; and daughter Beth and her husband Ernie Mitchell of Des Moines. He is also survived by his sister Loretta Comstock of Clinton, Iowa and his brother Joe Bremhorst of Concord, California.
