Beverly Ann Leonard, 77, of Des Moines died of cancer on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, surrounded by family and friends at Woodlands Creek in Clive, Iowa.

Beverly was born to Frank & Mildred Brumley on February 3, 1935 in Dayton, OH. She graduated from Otterbein College, where she met and married her husband, Keith, in 1957. She earned her master's degree from Ohio University. The family lived in Hiram, OH; Macomb, IL; Duluth, MN; Scottdale, PA; and Indianola, IA before settling in Des Moines in 1978.

She enjoyed working with children as a speech pathologist for the Des Moines Public Schools until her retirement and through volunteer programs in the schools as well. She also worked at Broadlawns Medical Center & the Mercy Child Development Center.

Beverly loved animals and nature. She volunteered at Blank Park Zoo, took beautiful photos of flowers, and cared for many family pets throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening, face-painting, arts & crafts, photography, and theatre. She was a long-standing member of the Highland Park Christian Church and an ardent supporter of the Democratic Party.

Beverly is survived by her husband Keith, sons Christopher and Shawn (Stacie), and granddaughter Jackie, all of Des Moines, her brother Frank (Brenda), nephew Frank (Grace), niece Vicky (Asif), and grand nieces and nephews, all of Lewisburg, OH.

In accordance with her wishes, a cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Thursday, December 20, at Highland Park Christian Church, located at 4260 NW 6th Drive. The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m., with services to follow at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Highland Park Christian Church.

The family wishes to thank everyone who has cared for and shared their lives with Beverly. Our deepest gratitude to the members of Highland Park Christian Church, and dear friends Mary and Narm Reeves.
