John Lammey

Pleasant Hill

John Lammey, 86, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Cora, and three children, Artie (Sherie) of Hanover, MN, Patricia (Todd) Outlaw of Houston, TX, and Howard (Sue) of Des Moines. John had four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

John was born in Percy, IA to Wesley and Mabel on February 27, 1926. On June 20, 1948, he married the love of his life, Cora Brown, in Indianola. John served in the Army during the Korean War, followed by years as a machinist and sheet metal worker.

John loved fishing, bowling, word and picture puzzles, and bird watching. His woodworking talent benefited many people at home, church, and his retirement home. He whistled beautifully and blessed his family with melodies around the house.

John served as church trustee and had attended Grace Community Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill. Earlier, he made church a priority for his family with consistent attendance at Galilee Baptist Church in Des Moines. He had a heart to serve and maintained/repaired the churches he attended throughout his life.

No services are planned at this time. John will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
