Donald A. Dreessen, age 81, of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 with family at his side.
Born on March 18, 1931 in Sac County he was the son of Henry and Anna (Auen) Dreessen.
Don grew up in the Wall Lake/Odebolt area. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served for four years during the Korean War. On April 8, 1956 he married Marilyn Ruth Nickels in Storm Lake. Don began his 29 year career with the Iowa State Patrol later in 1956, starting out in Des Moines as a Driver's License Examiner. A few years later he was transferred to Carroll where he and Marilyn made their home.
During retirement, Don enjoyed driving school buses for the Carroll Community Schools. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll, the Carroll Masonic Lodge, and the Carroll American Legion.
Don is survived by a daughter Nancy (John) Henry of Colo, Iowa; a son Dan (Kris) Dreessen of rural Glidden; six grandchildren; one great grandson; two sisters; a brother-in-law and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Sunday, a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.
