Mildred G. Swanson died suddenly late February 17th at Mercy Hospital. Mildred lived over 90 years, the last six years without her beloved husband, Clifford. More than once she expressed a great desire to join him and continue their 65 year marriage before God. Their marriage began days before war was declared which eventually caused them to be separated. This the first of many challenges which they always overcame. As a couple they truly treasured family, immediate and extended. They enjoyed many hours of visiting relatives and playing endless games of cards. Even in their later years they could still turn heads with a lively polka. In later years Mildred developed a great love of bridge.
She worked in many occupations, from the family farm during the depression, to riveting bombers during the war, to starting a parochial lunch program, to running the family business, "South Des Moines Sweeper" with her husband. Mildred was a longtime south side Des Moines resident and former member of Christ the King Catholic Church. As parents they instilled strong values in their children and provided each of them the opportunity to attend Catholic Schools.
Mildred is survived by all of her children, Larry, Morgo, Gordon, Melonnie, Gary and Greg, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A private ceremony is planned for later.
