Donald Stevenson Burnham
Don Stevenson Burnham, 72, passed away February 22, 2013. He was born August 14, 1940, in Corydon, Iowa. He was the son of Milo and Katiebelle Burnham.
Don grew up on a farm in Wayne County where he graduated from Cambria High School. He later went on to receive a Business Administration degree from NE Missouri State Teacher College (now known as Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO in 1962. After college he joined the Army Reserve where he served for 6 years. Don worked in the Life Underwriting area for Farm Bureau Life and retired in 1999 after 36 years. He enjoyed coaching youth softball and basketball, doing yard work, going to the Iowa State Fair, and attending exercise class at the Urbandale Senior Center. Don especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their sporting activities. Don was a member of the Urbandale United Church of Christ and Lions Club.
Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Janice; son, Michael (Sarah) Burnham of Carmel, IN, daughter, Sheri (John) Yoder of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Ryan Yoder, Rebecca Burnham, Allison Yoder, Laura Burnham, Henry Burnham, Abigail Burnham; brother, Milo (Pat) Burnham of Green Valley, AZ, and sister, Mary Carlson of Urbandale, IA.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, at Merle Hay Funeral Home with burial at Chapel Hills Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Urbandale Senior Center or Urbandale United Church of Christ in loving memory of Don.
