HARVEY INGHAM III

N. Palm Beach, FL.

Harvey Ingham III, age 91, passed away on March 9, 2013 at his home in North Palm Beach, FL. He was born on April 20, 1921 in Valparaiso, IN, to Harvey Jr. and Helen Louise (Prater) Ingham.

Harvey grew up in Washington DC and Pasadena Ca. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH in 1939. After high school he attended Stanford University until joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. During World War II he served as a pilot and a communications officer until his discharge in 1945. He later attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in Journalism.

Harvey married Jean (Martin) in 1943 in San Antonio,TX. They raised a family of four children and were happily married for 50 years. Harvey started his business career as a newspaper reporter for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune. He developed extensive expertise in the field of communications in various management positions with the Minneapolis Star and Tribune, Philadelphia Evening and Sunday Bulletin, and Ridder Publications in San Jose, CA. In 1975 his company, Ingham Communications, Inc., acquired KIEM-TV in Eureka, CA where he served as President and station manager. Harvey was well known for the thought-provoking and colorful community comments he delivered weekly.

As a young man, Harvey was a scratch golfer and pursued his passion for the game throughout his life. He served as president of Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata CA and chose to retire to Lost Tree Village in Florida in order to play its championship golf course. At Lost Tree, Harvey reconnected with numerous life-long friends also living there. He was always surrounded by friends on the golf course and in the club house. Had Will Rogers known him, he undoubtedly would have said, "I never met a man who didn't like Harvey," and Harvey, in return, had the gift of making everyone he met feel like a friend.

Harvey's great grandfather was William Harvey Ingham, a noted Iowa pioneer, and his grandfather, Harvey Ingham co-founded the Des Moines Register and Tribune. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and his parents, Harvey Jr. and Louise.

Harvey is survived by his children Harvey IV [Jane], Stephanie Schutzendorf (Gordon), Henry (Cheryl) and Donald (Barbara); grandchildren Peter Seabrook, Audrey Chivukula (Roger), Sarah White (Jordan), Jennifer Schutzendorf, Kyle Ingham, Michelle Gurner (John), Donald Ingham, Jr. (Emily) and Scott Ingham; brother Richard S. Ingham; eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. The family is planning a service in Des Moines, Iowa at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to your local Hospice provider.

Harvey was a member of America's greatest generation. He served his country, lived the American Dream, and left this world on his own terms. All who knew him will miss him.
