Mary Emm Franson age 88, of Perry passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at her home in Perry. Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Perry. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Carris Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. In lieu of flowers memorials will be given to the family and may be left at the Funeral Home. Mary Emm Franson was born on February 7, 1925 at Des Moines, IA, to Wyile John and Margret Jane (Wilt) Gouger. She graduated from Des Moines North High School. Following graduation she served her country in the United States Marine Corps. Mary Emm liked to dance and met her future husband (Wilbur L. Franson) at a dance, and they were married on August 31, 1947 at Grand View Lutheran Church in Des Moines, IA. Mary worked as the Welcome Wagon Hostess in Perry, IA, Booth Fisheries, Des Moines, IA, and Younkers, Des Moines, IA.

Mary Emm was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Regina Guild, and was a Religious Education Teacher. She was also a member of PEO Chapter OK, the Soroptimist Club, past President of Library Board, and a Cub Scout Leader. She loved to play bridge with her friends and would take time to teach anyone that wanted to learn the game. She was humorous, a very classy lady. She was always appreciative and so complimentary to everyone. She volunteered at the Carnegie Library Museum. There were many activities she enjoyed, such as growing flowers in her garden, collecting cook books, shopping, and was an avid reader. She especially loved spending time with her grandson, great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by parents, Wyile John Gouger and Margret Jane Lindel, husband, Dr. Wilbur L. Franson, a sister, Xenda Lindel and a brother, Keith Gouger.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Franson, Perry, IA, son, Eric Franson, Minneapolis, MN, sister, Dr. Linda Noblet, Montrose, CO, grandson, Michael D. Franson, Perry, IA, great-grandchildren, Gabe, Angeline and Felicity Franson, several nieces and nephews.
