Dean E. Lettington
Dean E. Lettington, 87, passed away at his home Friday, May 24, 2013.
Dean was born July 17, 1925 in Runnells, Iowa to William and Ollie Lettington. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was amongst the first Iowans to visit Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight. Dean served on the committee for the WWII Freedom Memorial at the State Capitol and was an active member of VFW Post #738. He had a passion for educating student groups on the realities of WWII. Dean worked for Iowa Pack for many years before retiring from Wilson Foods.
Dean is survived by his children, Dan Lettington and Louvina (Jim) Holtz; grandchildren, Jason Merkley and Amanda Holtz; great-grandson, Mason Merkley; and a host of extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Nadene; son, David; and his siblings, Golda Mae, Wilma, Russell, Thelma, Chester, William, Clyde and Ruth.
A celebration of Dean's life and patriotism will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. followed by burial at Sandyville Cemetery in Sandyville, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
