Doris Jane (Merkle) Simms passed away peacefully Monday, July 1, surrounded by her family. She lost a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. Memorial Services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
Jane was born to Melvin and Laurel Merkle on May 22, 1934 at home in Coin, IA. Jane met the love of her life in 1963 and married Tom Simms of Des Moines on June 27, 1964. After Tom's death in 1986, Jane became a voracious volunteer for several organizations, highlighted by her serving as Chair-Person for the 1999 Festival of Trees.
