William Arthur Galetich
William A. "Bill" or "Willie" Galetich, 91, passed from this life on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Boone County Hospital in Boone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, July 31, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid, of which he was a member. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Madrid, with military honors conducted by Madrid V.F.W. Post 5060.
Bill was born on February 28, 1923, in High Bridge, Iowa, one of nine children to John and Catherine (Sabel) Galetich. He was a 1942 graduate of Madrid High School. Bill was an air force veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1945. On March 3, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Arline Jeanette Nordini in Madrid, where they made their home. He was formerly employed as an Experimental Department Machinist with John Deere for 37 years, until Bill retired in 1983. He was a former member of both the Madrid V.F.W. Post 5060 and Madrid Lions Club. Bill was inducted in the Iowa Baseball Hall of Fame. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Arline Galetich of Madrid; one brother, Lou Galetich of Madrid; one sister, Rose Marie Biondi of Ames; and a host of many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded into eternal life by his parents; four brothers, John, Tony, Emil and Steve Galetich; and two sisters, Ann Butelli and Mary Galetich.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, where a Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m.
