Edward G. Plate, age 85 of Prairie City, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Pella Regional Health Care Center - Long Term Care in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 4, 2013, from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Edward G. Plate Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Tim and Geraldine (Rouw) Plate, Ed was born on December 1, 1927 in Monroe, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Reda Branderhorst in Exeter, Ontario. Ed farmed and drove trucks for Van Wyk Freight Lines. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and elder.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Reda; children, Annie (Steve) Swanson of Prairie City, Tim (Sheryl) Plate of Prairie City, Sheri Plate of Pella, Carla (Ed) Engelbrecht of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Julie (Ryan) Kramer of Otley; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Joan (Don) Ryerkerk of Des Moines, Helen (John) Tibboel of Prairie City, Kathryn (Erwin) Frerichs of Ankeny, and Marge Van Wyk of Prairie City and a brother, John Plate of Ankeny. Preceding Ed in death were his parents, a brother, Donald, two sisters-in-law, Jeannette and Ann and a brother-in-law, Harold Van Wyk.
