Pierce Joseph Coady

Pierce "Pete" Coady passed peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the age of 76. He was a loving husband and father, and a doting grandfather. He was loved deeply and will be missed greatly.
Visitation will be held at Iles Westover Chapel, on Friday, December 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustin Catholic Church in Des Moines on Saturday, December 21, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Pete was born to Robert and Catherine (Sheedy) Coady, and was raised on a farm in Melrose, Iowa. He graduated from Russell High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Army in 1958, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC.
He married Charlene Watkins in Albia, IA in 1963. They made their home in Des Moines where they raised their five children. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 5, 2013.
Pete worked for the Des Moines Fire Department for 20 years until he retired in 1986. He was also the owner of Coady Construction Company. He was a member of St. Augustin Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and usher for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Catherine, his siblings Dorothy Ann, Mary, William, and Patrick, and his beloved son Michael. He is survived by his wife Charlene, his children Pierce Jr. (Ginny) of Ames, Laurie Bruner (Chris) of West Des Moines, Susan Rowling (Jason) of Davidson, NC, and Sandra Montie (Dwayne) of Palm City, FL; his grandchildren Olivia and Max Bruner, James, Jackson, and Abigail Rowling, and Emma Montie; his siblings Eileen Spencer of Albia, Robert (Doris) Coady of Urbandale, Jack (Ann) Coady of Solon, Donna (Tony) Humeston of Albia, Larry (Sandi) Coady of Des Moines, and sister-in-law Marlys Coady of Apple Valley, MN.
