Lupe Munoz

Cambridge

Mr. Lupe Munoz, 94, died Sunday, January 26, 2014.

Lupe was born August 22, 1919 in Valley Junction, Iowa to Doniciano and Maria (Barcelona) Munoz. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during WW II. Lupe was a proud participant in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933. He retired from the Rock Island Railroad in 1980 and enjoyed traveling and going to the casinos.

Lupe was a wonderful father who loved his family. He was incredibly hard working. Selfless and giving, he would help a friend in need before even being asked.

He is survived by his children: Gary (Debra), Janet Maldonado, and Jon (Elena); grandchildren: Renee, Tony, Michael, Jane, Penny, Jennifer (Austin), and Christina; eight great-grandchildren; four great- great- grandchildren; and siblings: John, Phillip, Joe, Dick, Vigie Rocha, Mary Prichard, and Carmen Luevano.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 71 years, Frances; and his brothers, Manuel, Tomas, Manuel, and Jose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church, 510 East 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa with visitation for one hour prior to mass, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Lupe's family would like to thank Scott and Marilyn Olson, whose wonderful VA Foster Care Home contributed to his fruitful longevity in the year he lived with them. They would also like to thank the New Horizons Adult Day Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Lupe looked forward to going there for the fun filled days of activities directed by a loving staff. And lastly, the Community Care Living Center at the VA in Des Moines and Hospice of Central Iowa whose care and professionalism by the staff was beyond compare.
