Grace Mitchell, 89, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, February 6, 2014. She was born January 27, 1925 to Walter and Katie McClary in Grandfield, Oklahoma.
She was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church and Campers on Mission. Happy and Grace were one of the first founding families of the Southern Baptist Church in Des Moines. Her faith in God was what guided her through life. Grace loved being Happy's wife, they were married for 69 and a half years. She enjoyed gardening, family vacations and game time, traveling, boating and fishing. Grace was such an easy person to love, she made friends every where she went.
She is survived by her loving husband, Happy Opal Mitchell; son, Roger Paul (Sandy) Mitchell; daughters, Linda Jo (Steve) Nehring, Gail Patricia (Clarence) Goodell, April Lynn (Dave) Wright, and Libby (David) Miller; Grandchildren: Benjamin and David, Devin, Matthew and Megan, John, Tom and Katie, Quincy and Derek; Special grandchildren: Lance, Sheila and Julie, Alexis and Courtney; Great grandchildren: Mitchell and Austin.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. with family present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2014 at Crestwood Baptist Church, 3717 Forest Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the church with a private burial at Altoona Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Center at Luther Park for a piano in loving memory of Grace.
