A visitation will be held from 12 to 4 pm on Sunday, February 16 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends from 2 to 4 pm. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Monday, February 17 at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. Burial will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.

Born on March 20, 1936, in Des Moines, Janet Evelyn (Skeie) Nesbit was the daughter of Evelyn E. (Butler) and Arthur O. Skeie. Her family lived for a few years in Polk City before moving to Ames. Janet graduated from Ames High School in 1954. She attended Iowa State University and then the University of Iowa, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On November 8, 1958, Janet married Floyd Wallace Nesbit at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. After briefly living in San Diego, California, the couple settled in Creston in 1960, where Floyd was a dentist and Janet assisted him later in his practice. They had two children.

Janet was actively involved in PEO Chapter LG, holding most of the officer positions, including chapter president, at least once. She volunteered for many years at the Greater Regional Medical Center and was a supporter of the Gibson Memorial Library, both in Creston. Janet enjoyed playing bridge with friends, was an avid reader and was a life-long supporter of the Iowa State Cyclones. She loved cooking for her family as much as her family loved her cooking.

Janet is survived by her son Scott Nesbit, Sioux Falls, SD, and daughter Susan (Paul Fisher) Nesbit-Fisher, West Des Moines; four grandchildren Sara Nesbit, Justin Nesbit, Sydney Fisher and Will Fisher; brother and sister-in-law L.J. and Nan Skeie, Litchfield, CT, and brother-in-law Harry Nesbit, Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Floyd, and her parents and an infant brother Stephen Arthur.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Gibson Memorial Library or Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.
