Darrel Beede

Grinnell and formerly of Montezuma

Darrel Beede, 87 of Grinnell and formerly of Montezuma went to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church or the St. Francis Foundation. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.hollandcoblefuneralhomes.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Darrel Ernest Beede, son of Carl and Faye (Edwards) Beede was born on March 9, 1926 in Cedar Rapids. He attended Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids until the eleventh grade before moving to Des Moines and graduating from East High School in 1944. Following high school graduation, Darrel enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp., serving two years before he was honorably discharged. On November 1, 1946, Darrel was united in marriage to Norma Roth in Des Moines. To this union two children were born, Debbie and Mark. Darrel was a salesman and branch manager for Deco Tool Supply Company in Des Moines for 25 plus years. After retirement in 1986, Darrel and Norma moved to Lake Ponderosa in Montezuma, Iowa. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Family was very important to Darrel. He was a wonderful father, caring grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities, whether it was sporting events, school programs or church functions. During Darrel's younger years, he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and bowling. Darrel and Norma spent many years wintering in Arizona. He was a member of the Montezuma First Presbyterian Evangelical Church, Montezuma Country Club and Lake Ponderosa Association.

His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Debbie (Mark) Rinehart of Grinnell; his son, Mark Beede of Des Moines; his four grandchildren and families; Scott (Tara) Rinehart and children: Lauren, Mark and Anthony; Jennifer (Greg) King and children: Tyler, Preslie and Piper; Melissa (Andy) Forkner and Jeff (Kelsey King) Beede and daughter, Kinlee; a sister-in-law, Mary Buschusen and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Norma Beede on February 13, 2013 and four siblings, Eunice Rooker, Elmer Beede, Loretta Morton and Irma Hall.
