Beverly Plath Obituary

Beverly Plath

Urbandale

Beverly Marlene Plath, age 80, passed away of Alzheimer's at the Fountain West Health Center in West Des Moines, Iowa on April 20, 2015 after a long and courageous battle surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held at Iles Westover Chapel on Friday April 24, from 5- 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church (1240- 66th Street, Windsor Heights, IA). A luncheon will be held directly after the service. Private burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines.

Bev was born March 24, 1935, in Monticello, Iowa to Herman and Frieda Ortgies. She grew up on a farm with her brother Virgil "Bud" (Vonnie) Ortgies and many relatives. She graduated from Anamosa High School in 1953. Bev waited for her high school love to serve in the Army. After his return, she married Robert (Bob) Plath and they moved to Des Moines where they raised their two children.

Bev was highly involved in volunteering at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary and with the Clive Good Idea Club. She had a passion for her family, friends, kids, reading, bowling, her faith, flowers, volunteering, Sudoku, and word finds games. She will always be remembered for embracing everyone she met with genuine loving kindness, a welcoming smile, and she was always available to volunteer her services in any type of capacity.

Bev is survived by her husband, Robert Plath of Urbandale; her children, Brian Plath (Patti) of West Des Moines and Tawni Plath (Scott) of Dexter, IA; Bev's beloved grandchildren: Seth Baker, Jacob Plath, Sara Rubin, Jackson Plath and great-grandson Devin Baker; and her brother, Virgil "Bud" (Vonnie) Ortgies of Montana. She now rests in peace with her loving parents, other family members, and many friends. She will be cherished and missed by many.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers and friends who have shown such great compassion during Bev's final years. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences are welcomed at www.IlesCares.com.
