Doris Cockerham, 91, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, her memory may be honored by a gift to the Billy Graham Evangelist Association, Birchman Baptist Church Missions or the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Doris Florette Cockerham was born Jan. 31, 1921, to Andrew and Donie Nuckols in Hill County, near Itasca. She attended school in the Itasca ISD, graduating in 1938. She met and married her late husband of 66 years, J.T. Cockerham, in 1940, subsequently living in Dallas and Grand Prairie, while working at North American Aviation during World War II. In 1946, the family established their residence in the River Oaks area, where she remained until her death. Doris was a full-time homemaker, faithfully raising three children. She was active in her children's school activities, as well as community functions, and was considered an accomplished seamstress. Doris was a member of Birchman Baptist Church, and a charter member and past matron of Castleberry Chapter 1028 O.E.S. Throughout her life, Doris dedicated herself to sharing Christ with many, whether it was through years of teaching Sunday school, her longtime role of a volunteer counselor at the Pregnancy Help Center, or simply acting as spiritual advisor, mentor and friend. She was known by all to provide generous, yet unconditional support, time, effort and money to those in need. Her family finds great solace in knowing the tremendous impact her gentle nature, example and teaching, made in so many lives, and is truly proud of the legacy she created for all of us. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, J.T. Cockerham; parents, Andrew and Donie Nuckols; sisters, Jane Ewing and Maxine Murchison; and brothers, Edward and Paul Nuckols. Survivors: Daughters, Linda Anderson of Burleson, Phyllis Cromwell and husband, Dub, of Bedford; son, John Trent Cockerham and wife, Vicki, of Colleyville; sister-in-Law, Winnie Fred Nuckols of Keene; grandchildren, Angela Hurtt, Jeff Quayle, David Quayle, Roger Kilgore, Courtney Harper, Casey Cromwell, Amanda Murphy, Trent Cockerham and Taylor Cockerham; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To the Cockerham family,
My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have helped Doris in the evenings the past five months. Helping her was the highlight of my day, and I loved being in her company. Doris was a blessing to me every time I was in her home. I will miss her sweet spirit, her quiet dignity, and her whacky sense of humor that always caught me off guard.
God bless each you.
