Drews, John Richard - Dallas
John Richard Drews, 73, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016, peacefully at his home in Dallas with family by his side. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas with a reception immediately following. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Juliette Fowler Communities. https://www.fowlercommunities.org . A man of strong faith, upon being diagnosed with acute leukemia this spring, John chose to forego advanced medical treatments so that the remainder of his days could be spent continuing to make wonderful memories with family and friends. For this, we will be forever grateful. Born Aug. 4, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Okla. to Ralph and Fannie Shear Drews, John spent the majority of his childhood in Fort Worth graduating from Paschal High School in 1960. He then attended Southern Methodist University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1973, John received his Master of Business Administration from the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University. John chose commercial real estate as a profession and is known as being one of the first retail developers in Southlake. He loved playing golf, watching sports and cooking, even once having a favorite recipe of his featured in the Dallas Times Herald. The mountains of Colorado were his happy place and he spent many years hiking the trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. More recently, he and his much adored wife made Taos, N.M., a second home which they loved to visit regularly. His family and friends will always remember him as an exceptionally kind and loving person, with beautiful blue eyes and a huge, heart-warming smile. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: Wife, Dabney Graham Drews; daughters, Stephanie Drews and Carol Schlagel; son-in-law, Michael Schlagel; granddaughters, Avery Schlagel and Allie Schlagel; brother, Jerry Drews and his family; stepdaughter, Allison Wade; and Dabby's children and grandchildren, Liza, Jae, Caroline and Judge, Silas, Jennifer, Harlan and Judge Graham, and Will Graham.
