Astrid Nelson Eatherly, 82, of Southlake died Saturday, July 5, 2014. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a fund set up for Astrid's care givers. Those donations may be made to Julie Soldner and sent to Frost Bank, 1240 Keller Parkway, Suite 100, Keller, Texas 75248. She was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Greeley, Colo., to Hokan and Andrea Nelson, Swedish immigrants. Astrid grew up in the Greeley, Colo., area with a loving family of two older sisters, Edna Webb and Francis Wilson. She obtained a teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She devoted her life to her family. She married James W. Eatherly in 1954 and they moved to Garden City, Kan., where they lived for over 40 years. Along with raising five children, Astrid was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and involved in the Garden City community in many ways. Jim and Astrid loved to travel and were fortunate to have visited six continents. One of Astrid's favorite destinations was her parents' home in Vik, Sweden, near the Baltic Sea. Survivors: Her husband of 60 years, James W. Eatherly of Southlake; daughters, Lynn Duebendorfer and husband, David, of Westport, Conn., Susan West of Austin, Julie Soldner and husband, Steve, of Keller, Amy Walleck and husband, Sean, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; son, Robert J. Eatherly and wife, Laura, of Leawood, Kan.; and brother-in-law, Duane Wilson of Eaton, Colo. In addition, Astrid was blessed with 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family is grateful to Astrid's loving friends and caregivers.
