Jones, Margaret S. - Fort Worth
Margaret S. Jones, 92, passed peacefully in her sleep and joined her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 1, 2015. Service: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation or American Diabetes Association. Margaret was born in Trenton, Tenn., on Oct. 28, 1922. She was raised in Montgomery, Ala., where she later married and began a family that would include seven children. A proud military and pastor's wife, she resided in several states, as well as Guam, always making the best of wherever life took her. After settling in Fort Worth in 1968, she became employed as a legal secretary by Cantey Hanger, a position she eventually retired from in 1991. She then spent several years as an independent sales representative for various companies, including Queen's Way Clothing and Park Lane Jewelry. She loved people and she thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities these positions gave her to host parties and form lasting friendships. The two most important things in Margaret's life were her Lord and her family. She was a longtime member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church and treasured the friends in her ladies' Joy Class. Church services were often followed by family lunches, and holidays at her house were traditions not to be missed. Her children and grandchildren certainly appreciated the hours spent preparing for Christmas gift exchanges and Easter egg hunts at "Granny's house." Margaret also enjoyed traveling, crocheting, watching Texas Rangers baseball games, solving puzzles and playing card games. She loved eating sweets and visiting with her great-grandchildren. She lived a life worth being emulated -- if she said she would do it, she did it, and when she said she loved you, she meant it. Her death leaves a significant void in her family, and she will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Julia Southerland; brother, James Jr.; sister, Florence MacLean; and son, John Jones. Survivors: Brothers, Clayton Southerland (Lucille, deceased) and David Southerland (Reba); children, Jimmy Jones (Jimmie Dee, deceased), Tom Jones (Linda), Jeanne Hargett (Ken, deceased), Judie Reding (Eldon), Joanna Cloud (Paul Westphal) and June Jones; daughter-in-law, Lucille Jones; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
