Simko, Nancy Yon - Mansfield  
Nancy Yon Simko, 63, died peacefully Saturday morning, June 27, 2015. Due to Nancy's wishes, no services are planned. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate on Nancy's behalf to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Nancy was born in Mount Carmel, Ill., to Rinaldo and Ellen Yon. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1974 with a degree in education and later a master's in administration from Northern Illinois University. She married Robert Simko in 1979 and shortly thereafter, moved to Arlington where Nancy worked as a special education teacher and diagnostician in the Arlington Independent School District. Nancy retired in 2010 as the principal of Bryant Elementary and dedicated her remaining time serving as an educational consultant, taking various trips with family and friends, and playing with her two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Rinaldo; and her mother, Ellen. Survivors: Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert Simko; son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Sarah Simko; daughter and son-in-law, Reagan and Josh Freeman; her sister, Sharon Tolle; grandchildren, William Simko and Tucker Freeman; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

Stewart, James E. - Fort Worth  
Jim E. "Coach" Stewart, 68, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Grace Baptist Church, Fort Worth 76108. Interment: Private. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Greenwood. Jim "Coach" was born Jan. 11, 1947, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Elton and Betty Jean Hill. He attended Hobart High School in Oklahoma and then went on to Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he graduated with his bachelor's in education. Jim began his coaching career in Hobart, Okla., and then moved to Texas in 1981. He married Patsy in 1989. Through the years he coached at several schools and touched numerous lives. Coach will be remembered as loving father, grandfather and exceptional coach. He touched the lives of many. Coach was not alone when he left this earth he was surrounded by loved ones and friends. He will be missed greatly but never forgotten. His parents and his loving wife, Patsy, preceded him in death. Survivors: Sons and daughters-in-law, Josh and Amy, Michael and Sherry; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Dustin, Colette and Alan, Angela and Daren; sisters and brothers-in law, Sherry and Darrell, Tammy and Mark, Melody and Joe; brothers-in-law, Jerry and Jimmy; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas, Glenn - Cleburne  
Glenn E. Thomas passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015. Memorial service: 6 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at his farm, 2400 County Road 415, Cleburne, 76031. Glenn was born in Haltom City on July 3, 1923. He lived in the house he was born in until July 1941 when he joined the Navy and was serving at Pearl Harbor when World War II began. He was one of the few Pearl Harbor survivors left to tell the story first hand. He served his country proudly for 21 years. After retiring from the Navy he went to work for GSA as an inspector, but the job he loved most was farming and he actively farmed until the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Bird Thomas; sisters, Katherine Mullins, Edna Beckham, Mattie Thomas, Eunice Haslett; brother, Wily G. Thomas; and niece, Elizabeth Harris. Survivors: His wife of 75 years, Maxine Thomas; daughter, Brenda Barnett; grandchildren, Shelley Golden, Tommy Havens, Roy Barnett, Sylvia Fitzgerald and Krist Barnett Foster; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nephews, Jerry Beckham, Charles Haslett and Dan Thomas; nieces, Lanelle Jackson, Polly Hughes, Dola Russell, Carolyn Saichek, Judy Oldham; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

VanWye, Larry "Van" - Burleson  
Larry "Van" VanWye, 76, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, North Chapel, Compass Christian Church, 2600 Hall Johnson Road, Colleyville. Additional service: Week of Monday, July 20, with date, time and place to be decided; contact a family member for updated information. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the Disabled American Veterans, ww.dav.org . Van was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Ashland, Ohio. He had called Texas home since 1969. Van proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959. He was an enthusiastic small business owner and finally retired in 2000 from his "dream job" as the building engineer at Casa Manana, Fort Worth, where he never met a stranger. He was a skilled woodworker whose work adorns the homes of families, friends and many others. Most of all he was, as he would insist, an ordinary man. But those who knew him loved him, and he loved them back extraordinarily. He was predeceased in death by his parents; his grandparents; and his grandson, Tyler Mansell. Survivors: Cherished wife, Pat, whom he affectionately called "Patricia"; beloved children, Larry Jr., Toni Neary, Becky Scott, Rod Newcomer and wife, Tyra, Terri Mansell and husband, Randy; treasured brother, Pastor Darwyn VanWye and his wife, Suzanne, and their family; adored mother-in-law, Maxine Raver; brother-in-law, Bill Palmer and wife, Alice; sister-in-law, Marsha Berwick; grandchildren who loved and learned at his side, Rachael Sekin, John Paul Sekin, Grayson O'Conner, Allie and Kristyn Scott, Trevor Mansell, Alex , Andrew and Aidan Newcomer; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Alaya and Tae; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

West, Rev. Wayne - Joshua  
The Rev. Wayne West, 79, departed this life to touch the face of God on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Celebration of life: 1 p.m. Monday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Graveside service: will be held in Godley Cemetery. Pallbearers: The Rev. Otis Gillespie, Bryan Bradley, Nathan Stepp, J.W. West, Pat Hamilton and Terry Baker. Vernon Wayne West was born Oct. 31, 1935, to Vernon and Thelma West in Warren, Ark. He married the love of his life, Wanda King West, on Aug. 2, 1956. They shared almost 59 years together. He was the patriarch of our family, a faithful husband, devoted father, loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and mentor to many. The Rev. West was an Assemblies of God evangelist, in the ministry for over 58 years. We are just now learning what an impact he had on so many friends, family and loved ones. He lived the life he preached about, and his family will always be his legacy. The Rev. West proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Carswell AFB, from 1954-1958. He retired from Fort Worth ISD following 31 years of service. The Rev. West was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Thelma West; and brother, Jimmy West. Survivors: Wife, Wanda King West; daughter, Terri Cate and husband, Mark; sons, Mark West and wife, Sharon, and Jay West; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jackie West; and sisters, Sandra Johnson, DeRay McClain and Linda Thompson.
