Prentice Baker Obituary

Prentice "Pinky" Baker passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Martin's Funeral Home Chapel, Granbury. Interment: Acton Cemetery, Acton. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin's Funeral Home Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Shriners Hospital for Children, in care of Moslah Shrine in Fort Worth, or the Oak Trails Shore Baptist Church Summer Youth Camp Program in Granbury. "PBaker" was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Memphis, Texas. Upon graduating from high school in Memphis, he left the Texas Panhandle and after a tour in the Air Force, including re-activation during the Korean War, began a career with Southwestern Bell ending with retirement in 1982. After a few years with Brown and Root in Glen Rose, "Grandpa Pinky" again retired to tour the state in search of "fiddling" and western swing shows. His love of good Bob Wills music was matched only by his love of kids, whether related or not. Prentice was raised a Master Mason in Polytechnic Lodge #925 and currently was a 50-year member of Granbury Lodge #392. He was a member of the York Rite Bodies and Moslah Shrine in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by Ada, his wife of 48 years. Survivors: Wife, Billie of Granbury; daughter, Ann and Norm Ramsey of Tacoma, Wash.; sons, Richard and Carmen of Fort Worth, Mark of Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepdaughter, Betty and B.O. Poteet of Fort Worth and Kelly and Lanny Wood of Groves; stepsons, John Blackwell of Mingus and Jimmy Blackwell of Granbury; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
