Bettye Joan Smith Weltman died peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2013, during her 81st year. Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road, with Rabbi Ralph Mecklenburger officiating. Following committal prayers, she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband of 61 years, Henry, in the Beth-El Section of Greenwood Memorial Park. , in her memory, is suggested. Born in Dallas on Feb. 11, 1932, Bettye was the daughter of Phil and Bessie Nathan Smith. She was a graduate of the University of Texas
at Arlington with a degree in nursing. Bettye worked in mental health at the MHMRs of Tarrant and Johnson counties. She was a very crafty person who knitted, made jewelry and worked with stained glass. A Life Master at bridge, Bettye was a well-known player in Fort Worth. She loved to travel and went on many cruises around the world. Sitting at the beach house on the porch in her rocking chair, she delighted watching the ocean, the birds and ships as they sailed by. Playing games on the computer, reading and listening to music were also enjoyed. Survivors: In addition to her children, Cheryl Weltman, Larry Weltman and his wife, Linda, and Cindy Weltman Smith and her husband, Harold, Bettye is survived by her grandchildren, Brian Weltman, Tracy and Tom Jordan, Angela and Will Weeks and Joshua and Jennifer Smith; great-grandchildren, Jolie, Zachary, Devin, Sarah and Andrew; sisters, Naoma Smith and Sara Smith Pfeffer; nieces and nephews and their families; and trusty dogs, Chester and Mickey.
