Bill Tolbert Sr.(1914 - 2013)

William Alvis Tolbert Sr., 98, passed from this life to his heavenly home Saturday, April 20, 2013. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville. Bill was reunited with Genell, his wife of almost 69 years, whom he missed daily since her passing three years ago. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, deacon, Mason, World War II veteran and a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant. Bill was born in rural Blossom on Dec. 22, 1914. He was a farmboy at heart and loved tending his garden and raising a few cows well into old age. He worked hard, helped raise three sons and was frugal but also capable of great generosity. He loved being "Pop" and telling stories about the old days to his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a good man. He is missed. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Genell Eugenia; parents, William Wallace and Lucy Alice Shepherd Tolbert; and brothers, Morris and Virgil. Survivors: Sons, William Jr. and wife, Elaine, Larry and wife, Susan, and Ronnie and wife, Rita; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma May; sister-in-law, Margaret Corder; family friend, Teri Tolbert; and many nieces and nephews.
