Carl Buford Bourland, 87, went home to Jesus on Sunday, April 21, 2013. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at The Hills Church of Christ, 6300 N.E. Loop 820. Visitation will follow. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ's Haven Home for Children, Box 467, Keller, Texas 76244. Buford was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Itasca to George Carl and Anna Bourland. He grew up on a farm during the Depression and served in the U.S. Army during World War II
. In 1957, Buford was united in marriage to Evelyn Bransom. They welcomed their son, Paul Buford, in 1960. Buford worked for Chickasaw Lumber for 10 years and for John E. Quarles Lumber for 35 years, retiring at age 70. He loved serving as a greeter at church and he warmly welcomed people for more than 28 years. He loved carpentry and built every home that he and Evelyn lived in, plus several other houses, during his off time. In addition, he loved golf. Buford was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Neva and L.G. Lacy; and his brother-in-law, Fred Jones. Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Evelyn; son and daughter-in-law, Paul Buford and Melissa; sisters, Angie Jones of Fort Worth and Bernice Scott and husband, Bob, of Abilene; sister-in-law, Viola Herring of Hurst; granddaughter, Deena Rae Talley and husband, David; grandson, Blake and fiancee, Elissa Tarbell; granddaughters, Maria Winn and husband, Clay, and Kelsey Poblacion; great-granddaughters, Kolby and Brynlee Talley; great-grandson, Blake Winn; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
