Catherine Ruth Donovan

Catherine Ruth Donovan died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in Houston where she had resided for the past six years. Kay was born in 1915 to Gen. William James and Mrs. Jean Williamson in Minneapolis and grew up in Chicago. Following two years at Gulf Park By-the-Sea in Gulfport, Miss., she graduated from Northwestern University with a Master of Social Work. In 1940 she married Aloysius George Donovan of Fort Worth with whom she enjoyed a full life until his death in 1999. She was a lifetime member of Delta Gamma sorority and enjoyed her connection with the TCU chapter as an active alumnus throughout her life in Fort Worth. During those many decades she was also a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a dedicated volunteer at All Saints Episcopal Hospital where she was for a time the buyer and manager of the gift shop. For years Catherine and Al were volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program and she served for some time on its board of directors. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Al, and a grandson, William James Donovan Jr., in 1989. Survivors: She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Donovan Guynes and son-in-law, William Allison Guynes Jr., of Taos, N.M.; son, William James Donovan and daughter-in-law, Karen Gutches Donovan, of Houston; three grandchildren, Jennifer Donovan O'Donnell and husband, Walter O'Donnell, of Houston, William Allison Guynes III and wife, Cathy Guynes, of Maryland and Sarah Guynes Carr of San Angelo; and five great-grandchildren.
