Daniel Edwin Cashen(1953 - 2014)

Daniel Edwin "Danny" Cashen, 60, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, following an extended illness. Service: 3 p.m. Monday, May 12, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with military honors. Danny was born Oct. 10, 1953, in Norwood, Mass., to Ralph and Dorthy Kelly Cashen. At age 7, he and his family moved to Fort Worth. After his mother passed away when he was 11, Danny's life was shaped by the loving care of his stepmom, Doris Cashen. He attended Everman High and enlisted in the Marine Corps. Danny reached the rank of sergeant and served four years as a structural and engine mechanic in El Toro, Calif. After an honorable discharge in 1975, Danny returned to Dallas, where he began his decorated career with the Postal Service and attending school at UT, where he received his BS in political science while raising a family. He ran in 17 marathons for various causes. In 2004, he met the love of his life, Cheryl. In 2006, Danny and Cheryl eloped and were married in Littleton, Colo. Danny retired from the Postal Service at age 54. He found joy in writing songs, playing music and jamming with friends. He loved carving walking sticks and playing with his many cats. He was predeceased by his parents. Survivors: His loving wife, Cheryl Cashen; stepmother, Doris Cashen; son, Jeremy (Kasey) and their family, Corbin, Jay, Jersey and Quinn; daughter, Micheale Benes (Brandon) and sons, Cade, Cole and Reed; daughter, Spencer Cashen and children, Caleb and Kinsley; brothers, David, Dennis (Deanna), Dean (Teri) and Doug (Delores); sister, Donna Menn (Glenn); stepsons, Chris Stephenson and son, Parker, and Tyler Stephenson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a circle of friends too numerous to name.
