Darrel Dee Frankland, 89, a World War II
veteran, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Friday in Vandergriff Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center St., Arlington. Memorials: Donations in his honor may be made to First Christian Church, 118 N. Court St., Grayville, Ill. 62844. D.D. was born in Grayville, Ill., in 1924 and graduated from high school there in 1942. He served in the Army
during World War II for three years with 27 months overseas. He left home a kid, traveled all the way around the world, and returned a man with a good understanding of just how lucky he was. He worked as a superintendent for Central Freight Lines for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fellowship in the Masonic Lodge, was active in the Aldersgate Class at First United Methodist Church in Arlington and had many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Frankland; and two sisters, Genevieve Roberts and Leola Gregory. Survivors: His loving wife of 62 years, Martha Frankland; sister, Marjorie Miser and her husband, Mason, and family; daughters, Janet Baines and family and Susan Jett; son, Charles Frankland and wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Christopher Byram, Angela Toombs and Jesse Frankland; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Byram; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
