David James Kirby passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, in North Richland Hills. Celebration of life: 3 p.m. Wednesday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet. David was born on March 16, 1957, in Grapevine to Carl and Mary Kirby. David loved cars, which led him to his longtime profession in automotive repair. He attended TCC briefly and attended General Motors
training in Oregon. He also attended numerous automotive training classes in which he often received special recognition for achievements. David was in auto repair for over 35 years working in various shops until opening D&K Automotive with his wife in 2010. Together they were involved in assisting GRACE of Grapevine in a program to help clients with their automotive needs, and often loaning their vehicle when needed. He loved NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon, #24. He also loved working outside on his yard and loved his two little pugs, Frank and Ringo. Although, David had many passions, his family was his true love. He loved his wife, Karen, deeply and his daughters, Kimberly, Ginna and Robin. He admired his son-in-laws, Brian and Jared and adored his granddaughters, BrookLynn and Aubrey. Known as the "Renaissance Man" to his wife, "James," "Dad," "Sweetheart" and "Pa" to others, David had a warm, friendly quality that put people at ease; he had broad shoulders that people seemed to lean on. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. David was preceded in death by his father; sister, Janet Knight; and grandmother, Louise Kirby. Survivors: Wife, Karen; daughters, Robin Pearson, Kimberly Kirby Steinkamp and husband, Jared, Ginna Doyle and husband, Brian; grandchildren, BrookLynn, Aubrey, son-to-be, Baby Doyle; mother, Mary Kirby; sisters, Shirley Anderson and her husband, Jimmy, and their daughter, April and her husband, John, Barbara Crass and her husband, Joe; brothers, Carl Jr. and his wife, Karen, and their sons, Jason, Carll III and granddaughter, Eddie and his wife, Kathy; nephews, Kyle Knight, Kevin Knight; mother-in-law, Barbara Bayless; father-in-law, Arnold Bayless; sisters-in-law, Sandy Myers and her son, Andy, and Fay Bayres and her daughter, Amber, and son, Chris.
