Erlin Marshall Parten, born on May 14, 1920, in Waxahachie, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. At the time of his passing, Marshall was among friends and relatives at The Remington Independent Living Center in Valley Ranch, Irving, where he had lived happily the last four years. Celebration of life: 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Marshall will take his place next to his mother and father at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest; mother, Reter Tomerlin; Fannie, Reter's sister, who raised Marshall as her own after his mother passed away when he was 1 year old; brother, Melvin; and sisters, Earnestine, Tommy Sue, Betty Jo and Nadine. Survivors: Marshall is survived by first wife, Betty Bynum; four children, Michael, Stephen (granddaughter, Debbie, and great grandchildren, Curtis, Jessica and Jordan), Elizabeth, and Susan; second wife, Elisabeth Lauterbach-Parten and three children, Teresa, Janice and Carl (granddaughter and grandson, Chelsea and Harrison). Marshall served our country proudly in World War II
in the U.S. Navy
. He was a graduate of the University of Texas
, and a professional engineer and professional land surveyor in Texas for over 50 years. Marshall loved to play the harmonica and entertained family, friends and all who would listen whenever he had the opportunity.
