Fern Coalson Hudson, age 101, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bethesda Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 6657 N. FM 113, Weatherford, 76088. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St., Weatherford. Memorials: Bethesda United Methodist Church, Weatherford College, or Covenant Hospice. Fern was born Feb. 16, 1912, to Vines and Mattie Coalson in Garner. She was one of seven children: Gladys, Wayne, Brooks, Lem, Fern, Marshall and Lou. Fern married D.R. Hudson on Nov. 25, 1937, and was married for 63 years before D.R. died on June 19, 2000. She taught school in Mineral Wells at Sam Houston Elementary for 35 years. Fern was active in many organizations: DAR, Eastern Star, and was a charter member of the Weatherford Retired Teachers Association. Survivors: Her daughter, Nancy Hudson Owen and her husband, Jerry, of Arlington; grandson, Chris Owen of Weatherford; great-grandson, Harley Owen of Weatherford; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and numerous friends.
