Francis Louis BEARDSLEY

Francis Louis Beardsley, 97, went peacefully to see his Lord on December 11, 2012. Frank was born on Carl Street in San Francisco on 9/11/1915. He was the ninth child of 12 children born to Mary and Charles Beardsley and was the last of his siblings to leave this earth. He attended St. Anne' Grammar School in the Sunset District and was later transferred to St. Agnes' School near the Haight-Ashbury area. He then attended and graduated from St. Ignatius High School and played football in his junior and senior years, which led to a football scholarship to the University of San Francisco. He left in his sophomore year because his father would say "It's OK to be an All-American but I don't want an All-American bum." The fear of this possibility led Frank to leave the USF campus and join the Navy in 1936. While on leave to Seattle in 1943 he married Frances Albrecht, who he had been dating off and on for five years. Together they had ten children. In November 1960 Fran died suddenly. A year later he married Helen North who he had met through the intervention of Frank's sister, Sr. Eleanor. Helen had eight children and "to the vexation of the birth-control minded media" Joseph John and Helen Monica were born after their marriage. Frank retired from the Navy in 1968 and the family then operated Ye Olde Donut Shop and Morrow's Nut House in Monterey. Frank and Helen then retired and moved to Fresno, and then subsequently moved to Santa Rosa. Helen died in April, 2000, and Frank later married Dorothy Cushman, who has been a totally loving and devoted wife to him through his many difficult and serious illnesses and hospitalizations. Frank is survived by all of his 20 children and step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all too numerous to mention. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial Mass for Frank on Monday, 12/17/12 at 12:00 noon at Star of the Valley Catholic Church, Oakmont, Santa Rosa. Reception following immediately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Star of the Valley Maintenance Fund. "You have not chosen me; I have chosen you. Go and bear fruit that will last." John 15:16
