Gene C. Hickson passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Gonzalez Funeral Home Chapel in Mesquite (formerly Anderson Clayton Funeral Home). Interment: 2:30 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway. Viewing: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gonzalez Funeral Home Chapel. Gene C. Hickson was born July 26, 1939, to Harley and Adel Hickson in Forney. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, H.C. and Frank Hickson; and his sisters, Edna Holt and Altie Davis. Gene was employed for 42 years by the U.S. Postal Service, starting as a part-time carrier and retiring in management. While the Postal Service was his day job, he loved being an entrepreneur and tried his hand at several small-time ventures. Gene served in the Army
and was part of the Army Occupation Forces after the Korean War
. When he retired, he enjoyed day trips with JoAnn and often Matt, Debbie and Lindsey, to places which were part of his memories. As his health began to fail, he was fortunate to have the full and complete help of numerous friends and family. He was a Christian from an early age and died knowing his faith was with him. Survivors: His wife of 53 years, JoAnn; his beloved son, Matthew and wife, Debbie, of Arlington; his precious granddaughter, Lindsey Hickson of Irving; and his grandson, Christopher Marsh of Arlington.
