Gene Lamon Sackett(1927 - 2014)

Gene Lamon Sackett passed away at home Wednesday, June 25, 2014. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Oct. 11, 1927. He was raised in Guthrie, Okla., by his mother, Therese Chandler, and grandmother, Mae Bean Eisenhood Easton. He proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and Air Force. Gene graduated from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., with a bachelor's in mathematics. He continued graduate studies in physics. In 1961, he married Sue Ann Sable in Oklahoma City, Okla. They raised their two children in Santa Monica, Calif., and Arlington. They were happily married for 52 years. He loved running and participated in numerous 3K and 5K races. He came in first place numerous years at the Jingle Bell Run in Fort Worth. Gene was a devoted and loving husband and father. To neighbors and friends he was the kindest and most compassionate man. He retired from General Dynamics' data systems division and Computer Sciences Corp. as a CAD/CAM product engineer at the age of 70. He taught computer science courses at the University of Texas at Arlington until the age of 74. "And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 'Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people.' God himself will be with them and be their God, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former have passed away. Then he who sat on the throne said, 'Behold, I make all things new.' " Revelation 21:3-5 Gene Sackett lived life fully and finished well. It is the well spring that gives us the strength to keep on living and giving! Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Sue Ann Sable Sackett; and older brother, Billy Sackett. Survivors: Daughter, Sheryn Sackett-Carter and son-in-law, Clark Carter, of Bedford; son, Michael Sackett and daughter-in-law, Tonja Sackett, of Watauga; grandchildren, Nicholas Sackett, Casey McClendon of Springdale, Ark., and Philip Faver of Waco; and other loving family members, Athena Sackett, Nancy and Amanda Glinsky, and Eddie and Darlene Sable.
