Hubert Malcolm Spurlock, 90, departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2014, with his eldest daughter at his side. Service: 3 p.m. Sunday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park with military honors. Hubert "Tiny" was born May 7, 1923, in Temple, Okla., the son of Martin Spurlock and Etta Jaquess Spurlock. He was a twin and the youngest of 11 children. He graduated high school and immediately joined the Air Force. He served overseas in World War II
and was recalled for the Korean War
in 1950. Tiny married Marion Lula "Lu" Ballard on April 19, 1947, and they had two daughters, Linda and Regina. He was an active Mason and member of Temple Lodge 210. He retired from North American Phillips in 1988 and began working as a business broker. Tiny and Lu settled in Bedford in 1970 where he resided until his death. He was an active member of the Friendship Class at Euless First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed the Silver Sneakers exercise group three times a week at Stroud's Fitness of Hurst. Tiny donated his time in later years to N.E.E.D. (Northeast Emergency Distribution), Meals on Wheels and Guardianship Services where he acted as a guardian. He served as campaign managers for local elections and enjoyed participating in Bedford city politics. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lu. Survivors: Daughters, Linda Fischer and Gina Spurlock; grandson, Micah Fischer; good friend, Joyce Erwin; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
