James "Hop" Hopkins(1922 - 2014)

James "Hop" Hopkins, 92, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood. Mr. Hopkins was born Feb. 9, 1922 in Temple, Texas. On Feb. 1, 1947, at age 25, he opened Hopkins Company Wholesale Florist. Sixty-seven years later, at age 92, things are still going strong. After graduating from Temple High School in 1939, James entered the University of Texas at Austin where he was pursing a career in accounting. That plan was put on hold by Uncle Sam. He went into the Army Air Corps where he became a pilot. After serving his tour of duty, he returned to the university to complete his plans of becoming an accountant, but instead he opened Hopkins Company Wholesale Florist. Go figure! Mr. Hopkins was a giver of second chances, always giving his employees the ability to succeed. We would like to thank all our past, present, and future customers and friends we have made through these 67 years. You have been the reason for his success. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Albertine Hopkins; his first wife, Lucie Hopkins; and brother, John Hopkins. Survivors: Wife of 30 years, Susan Hopkins; children, Scott Hopkins and wife, Olga, Dale Hopkins, and Bruce Hopkins and wife, Erin; grandchildren, Travis, Jaime, Jeff, Lucas, Max and Sam; nephew, Bud; and stepchildren, Michael, Stephen, Marissa and Matthew. Hook Em!
