James Victor "Coach" Prince(1933 - 2014)

James Victor "Coach" Prince, 80, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, in Granbury. Memorial service: The celebration of Vic's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Granbury First United Methodist Church, 301 Loop 567 in Granbury. He was born in Speegleville, near Waco, on Dec. 4, 1933, to Alvin Hill Sr. and Myrtle Charity Jacob Prince. Vic passed away peacefully at his longtime home in Granbury on Jan. 7, 2014, at the age of 80 years. Vic graduated from Clifton High School in 1951, then continued his education attending Clifton Junior College, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin and Tarleton State University, earning degrees of bachelor of science in physical education and master of education. Vic proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps with the "C" Battery, 1st 155 mm Gun Battalion, during the Korean War as a radio operator and reached the rank of sergeant before he was honorably discharged. Vic married the love of his life, Lula Mae Hurst, in August 1961 and they have remained married for more than 52 years. Vic was a Mason and proud member of Granbury Masonic Lodge #392. Vic spent 36 years of his life in education as a school teacher, bus driver, elementary/junior high/high school vice principal, asst. school superintendent, athletic director and coach with the Star ISD, Gatesville ISD, Granbury ISD and Tarleton State University where he touched so many lives while serving these communities as a mentor to many fine young men and women. Preceding him in death were his parents, Alvin Hill Sr. and Myrtle Charity Jacob Prince; brothers, Alvin Jr. and Bill; sisters, Delora, Juanita, Peggy and Bobbie; and granddaughter, Mercedes. Survivors: Wife, Lula Mae; son, Craig; daughter, Jennifer; grandchildren, Lu Anne (James), Misty, Zac (Brittney), Jacob, Rebecca and Conagher; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kade, Logan, Brecken, and a great-granddaughter expected in April.
