Maj. Jim Ott, 92, U.S. Air Force
retired, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013. Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Jim was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Columbus, Ohio, and had been a Texas resident since 1947. He attended the University of Missouri and United States Air Force School. Jim was a veteran of World War II
, the Korean War
and Vietnam era. He was a rated flying officer. He retired from General Dynamics as an engineer after 37 years of dedicated work. Jim was a life member of VFW
Post #415045 and served in the Strategic Air Command. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed motorcycle riding. Jim never met a stranger, and as much as he loved working, he enjoyed retirement more. He had a zeal for life and people. He was a simple family man to everyone he met and they returned that love to him too. Jim loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He was preceded in death by Mary Hout Ott, wife of 50 years; Mary Lindsey Ott, wife of 20 years; sons, Norman and Richard; and daughter, Melissa. Survivors: Children, Pastor Kathy Ott, Larry Ott and wife, Patricia, and Marilyn Hartsell Fackler and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Jeneanne Stewart, Johnny Hartsell, Alexander Ott, SFC Timothy Ott, Amber Jenkins Ott, Annie Siharath, Donnie Eisenburg; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
