Johnnie Ray Armstrong(1924 - 2013)

Johnnie Ray Armstrong passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, at the age of 88. Graveside service: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane C, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas, 75211. Johnnie was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Eastland where he was raised by his grandmother, Annie Armstrong, who he spoke of with great affection. At the age of 18 he moved to Fort Worth and worked at the Corrugated Box Company where he was employed for almost 35 years as a forklift operator. His only extended leave as an employee was spending 6 months with the army providing supplies for the troops during the Korean War. On the way to Korea he spent a day in Hawaii which he talked about fondly for the rest of his life! Johnnie was a bachelor his entire life and loved his freedom and independence. He was very fond of coffee, ice cream, and cookies. He also loved the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. For the majority of his life he lived in the historic Fairmount neighborhood in Fort Worth. He was well known and loved by the residents of Fairmount. For decades he walked in the neighborhood twice daily making numerous stops to greet and visit with neighbors on his way to get a cup of coffee. He always greeted people warmly with his big smile and "sparkly" eyes and took time to visit with his neighbors. He will be missed and remembered as friendly and kind by all those who were blessed to know him.
