Martha Getzendaner Kier of Arlington passed away at an Arlington hospital on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Service: Services for Martha will be held at a future date. Born Nov. 27, 1924, Martha was raised in Fort Worth, where she attended Paschal High School and then North Texas Agricultural College. After a courtship that began the night of Dec. 7, 1941, Martha married James McClellan Kier on June 19, 1944. Martha, a 4 ft., 11 in., spitfire of a woman, raised two sons while enjoying a life full of myriad interest both of and ahead of the times: from needlepoint and sewing to the study of classical and existential literature, and later Sudoku and crossword puzzles...all while rarely missing a trip to the beauty parlor. Throughout her life, her unique and feisty spirit remained evident, and though both husband, Jimmy, and son, James William Kier, preceded her in death, she did not hesitate to say, "I've had a good life." Survivors: Martha is survived by son, Carlos Kier; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Exum; her four adoring grandchildren, Catherine Kier-Drew, Kenneth Kier, Craig Kier, Alexandra Kier; and great-granddaughter, Emma Kier.
