Martha Marian Hackney Pennybacker, wife of the Rev. Dr. Albert M. Pennybacker Jr., passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in Lexington, Ky. Memorial service: honoring her life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church in Lexington. Interment: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in Chattanooga Memorial Park, Memorial Drive, Chattanooga, Tenn. . She taught in both private and public schools, including the Carolyn Teague School, Fort Worth. Much of her life was dedicated to being a homemaker. Additionally, she served as a community volunteer, worked in the pre-kindergarten program of the Fort Worth Independent School District and the Child Study Center and as a freelance children's storyteller. Her church activities reflected her personal faith commitments: teaching Sunday school, a docent of the art in University Christian Church and an active member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She maintained a lifelong commitment to Church Women United. She was devoted to the performing arts and served on the board of the Fort Worth Community Theater. She was a member of the National Society of Arts and Letters, a patron of art museums and a supporter of the Fort Worth Symphony and the Lexington Philharmonic. Survivors: Besides her husband of 62 years, she is survived by her children, Dr. Susan Dabney Pennybacker of Chapel Hill, N.C., Janet Pennybacker Scott of Lexington, Ky., and David W. Pennybacker (Laura W.) of Rowlett; her granddaughters, Wynston M. Pennybacker and Spencer N. Pennybacker of Rowlett.
