, in her memory, is suggested. Born Feb. 2, 1914 in London, Ontario, Canada, Mary Louise was the daughter of Kenneth Percival Rutherford and Rebecca Jennie Thompson Neville. She received an undergraduate degree in classics from the University of Western Ontario, a master's degree from the University of Illinois
and her doctorate in comparative literature from Cornell University. Dr. Nugent first taught at Alma College, a private girls' school in St. Thomas, Ontario, later affiliated with the University of Western Ontario. In Texas, she taught at the University of St. Thomas in Houston and eventually retired as an English professor from the University of Houston. Mary Louise Neville married geologist Laurence Earl Nugent Jr. in 1942. After his death in 1970, she married attorney John L. Crawford, who died in 2002. She and Mr. Crawford strongly supported undergraduate education at the University of Texas
at Austin. The Crawford Endowed Scholarship benefits academically gifted students in the College of Natural Sciences. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and daughter, Mary Kathleen Nugent. Survivors: In addition to her sons and their wives, Kenneth Michael and Connie Nugent and John Laurence Earl Nugent and Kathy, Mrs. Crawford is survived by her grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Nugent and husband, Jamie McGovern, Michael Laurence Nugent, Elizabeth Kathleen Nugent and husband, Jeremy Mouton, and Anne Katherine Nugent and husband, Anuj Shah; and great-grandchildren, Andrew John Mouton, Catherine Eleanor Mouton and Natalie Ann McGovern.
