Richard Lee Sloan Sr., 74, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Bluebonnet Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Thompson's Harveson and Cole in Fort Worth. Memorials: Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Association, 1134 Finfeather Rd., Bryan, Texas 77803. Richard was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Amarillo, son of the late Floyd Lee and Alma Moore Sloan. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1957 and earned a degree in economics from Texas A&M University
in 1962. He married Barbara Ann Brazier in October of that year. He earned a master's degree in education from George Washington University in 1979. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force
for 20 years and was a Vietnam War
veteran. He was a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America, Longhorn and Circle Ten councils. He taught at Oasis Alternative School in Fort Worth and Elmer Watson Learning Center in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD. Richard enjoyed listening to music, reading, cycling, camping and hiking. He was a member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Texas A&M Former Students Association, Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Association, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars
. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff and families at Colonial Gardens Alzheimer's Care Facility and Stonegate Nursing Center in Fort Worth. Survivors: His wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Sloan; children, Julia C. Sloan, Richard Lee Sloan Jr. and wife, Susan Beth; granddaughter, Piper Isabel Pizzo; and extended family members.
