Robert L. "Bob" Davis(1928 - 2013)

Robert L. "Bob" Davis, 85, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Haltom City. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to in Memphis, Tenn.; Happy Hill Farm for Children in Granbury, Texas; or Meals on Wheels. Bob was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Union City, Tenn., to Clarence and Lela Lancaster Davis. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and serving during the Korean War at SAC-Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth. During this time he met and he married his beloved wife of 56 years, Martha Cothren Davis. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering. During his professional career he worked at the Texas Highway Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he retired, specializing in bridge design and construction. He was active at Boulevard United Methodist Church for many years, and in recent years was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He enjoyed volunteer work, especially delivering for Meals on Wheels. He was a modest, loyal man who greatly valued his friendships. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Davis; sister-in-law, Mary Cothren Nolley; and nephews, Earl Harvey and Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Harvey. Survivors: Sons, J. Greg Davis and wife, Jean, of Cedar Park and Mike Davis and wife, Megan, of Richardson; daughters, Donna Hannon and husband, Charles, of Allen and Patricia Davis of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, Katherine Hannon, Valerie Hannon, Joelle Hannon Cropp and husband, John, Caryn Davis, Capt. Andrew Davis and wife, Sarah, Cherisse Davis, Joseph Davis, Peter Davis and Rebecca Davis; niece, Ruth Ann Crofton and husband, John, of Brookshire; nephew, Bill Harvey and wife, Sandra, of Cypress; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; brother, Dean Davis of Florida; and many more dear relatives and friends.
