Robert L. Shanklin

Robert Shanklin, 87, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill United Methodist Church. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Hill United Methodist Church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forest Hill Memorial Park, 3219 California Parkway, Forest Hill, Texas 76119. Bob was born June 6, 1926, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Olive and Vernon Shanklin. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the christening crew of the USS Wenatchee. He graduated from Indiana State Teachers College with a degree in chemistry. He worked for DuPont for 13 years and Mosites Rubber Company for 25 years. Bob was currently serving his second consecutive term as City Council member for the city of Forest Hill. He served the city in many capacities including being elected to the council from 1995-2007. He volunteered for many city boards and committees, most recently as chairman of the Memorial Park Committee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; son, Lee Shanklin; brother, Jack Shanklin; and sister, LaVerne Depugh. Survivors: Nephews, Vernon Shanklin and wife, Linda, Richard Shanklin and wife, Sharon, Christopher Shanklin and Stephen Shanklin; and a very special friend, Carol Nanchy.
