Stephen A. Martin Sr., 66, of Fayetteville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Service: Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 101 Walt Banks Road, Peachtree City, GA Interment: Sgt. Martin will be buried with honors at 1 p.m. in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. Visitation: The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine High School (My Legacy Brick Campaign) in the name of Mr. Stephen Martin Sr., 2600 A.P. Tureaud Ave., New Orleans, La. 70119, 504-940-5980. Stephen A. Martin Sr., CPA and MBA, was born Nov. 2, 1946, and was a native of Marrero, La. Stephen attended St. Augustine High School (recipient of the Purple Knight Award), class of 1964. He earned his B.A. in Latin as a Rockefeller Scholar and M.B.A. as an Arthur Young Scholar from Tulane
University in New Orleans, La. Among his many achievements and distinctions, he was the first African-American to play any varsity sport for the Southeastern Conference while on academic scholarship. Stephen served his country in the United States Army. He held several post-secondary administrative positions, including as vice president for administration at Texas Wesleyan University, and he retired as the chief financial officer for Tuskegee University in 2012. He was the son of the late Mary Batiste and Wilbert J. Martin. Survivors: He was the beloved husband of Brigid C. Martin for the past 43 years; loving father of Stephen A. Martin Jr. (Monique), Nicole M. Franks (Kevin) and Dana C. Martin; grandfather of Taylor Claire, John, Michelle and Payton; younger brother of Helen M. Morrison (Robert), Alvin J. Martin Sr. (Ethel) and Carole M. Walker (John). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
